Prologue
�� It had been three months since Sigma had been defeated for the second time and Zero had been resurrected. There had been no Maverick activity other than one small outburst where a hunter had attempted to assassinate Dr. Cain. He had met a quick death by Zero�s beam saber.
�� Maverick Hunters now did only reconnaissance work, to make sure no new maverick groups formed. But the hunters were getting lazy believing that now that Sigma was dead, there were no more mavericks. X had been quiet since he crushed Sigma, sitting in his quarters deep in thought. Zero had not been himself either lately. He spent most of his time thinking about Sigma�s last words, �But why did Zero...Last of the doctor�s creations... Betray me...� Who was the doctor? Who had created him. Sigma had said Zero had been created to serve him. Could he merely have been lying to trick Zero into serving him? Maybe, maybe not...
Chapter 1: An Average Life
�� Zero was asleep in his quarters when X decided Zero didn�t need anymore sleep. So X decided to wake him up the fun way. He grabbed a few thousand hand buzzers, a bunch of wires, a 500 volt battery, and a small metal bucket from his stuff. He filled the bucket with water and headed down the hallway toward Zero�s room.
�� He opened the door quietly and peeked in. �Good,� X thought. �He�s still asleep.� He moved quietly over to Zero. He wound up all the hand buzzers quickly. He covered Zero with the devices and attached wires to each one. He took the wires and attached the other ends of them to the battery. He quickly dumped the bucket of water of Zero.
�� The battery stimulated the hand buzzers causing them all to go of with a super-powered shock. The water made things worse as the electricity flowed through Zero�s body. The crimson reploid shook hard from the shock.
�� X fell to the floor laughing, holding his stomach and gasping for breath. He laughed so hard he began to cry as he saw Zero�s face. Zero didn�t think it was so funny. His armor had black streaks on it from where the hand buzzers and wires had been and his hair was curled and black at the end.
�� Zero walked over to X. �Look what you did to my hair!� He screamed at X in outrage. X stopped laughing as he saw Zero pick up his entire bed.
�� A look of fear crosses X�s face. �Hey, Zero, it was just a joke,� X stammered.
�� Zero held the bed high over X�s head. �Beg for mercy X, and maybe I won�t drop you down the garbage shoot after I smash you to pieces,� Zero threatened.
�� Zero, really, it was just a prank,� X whined. Finally X couldn�t take it anymore. �Please, please, please, puhh-lease, don�t kill me! I don�t wanna�� die.�
�� Continue,� Zero said calmly.
�� Oh master of the universe, smartest, strongest, best guy there ever was just please don�t kill me.�
�� Allright,� Zero smirked. �I�ll only hurt you badly.� With that Zero dropped the bed on X�s head. It hit with a loud crash as the bed smashed X hard. X fell on the ground whimpering as the bed bounced away.
�� It coulda� been worse,� X muttered.
�� You want me to hurt you more?� Zero asked with false sweetness.
�� No, really Zero, it was enough.�
�� No, I don�t mind.� Zero picked X up by his feet and began walking. X just whimpered and begged Zero to stop.
�� As Zero passed the lab Dr. Cain stopped him. �What do you think your doing, Zero?� asked the old scientist.
�� Help me doc!� X begged.
�� Zero,� Cain scolded. �Were you planning on dropping X down the garbage chute again?�
�� My old buddy X,� Zero asked. �I would never hurt X.�
�� Put him down Zero,� Cain ordered.
�� How ya� gonna� make me?� Zero asked.
�� I don�t know.� A frown crossed Cain�s face.
�� Easy,� Zero said. �You aren�t.� He rushed past Cain and dropped X all the down the horrible smelling garbage shoot. �Hold your nose! Zero called after him. He fell over laughing as X screamed the whole way down. There was a thump and X yelped.
�� I�m coming down to help, X,� Cain called down the garbage chute. �Just stay put."
�� Like I have a choice,� X complained.
�� "Don�t complain X,� Cain said. �Or I�ll let Zero help you instead of me.�
�� I�ll be good,� X said quietly.
